3D Art through games - Adventures

Most inspirational 3D art to me comes from games in general and today I'll write about specific game genre where 3D art through ages reached it's full potencional - Adventure games!

Do anyone remembers old adventure games? My firs encounter with adventure games was about 15 years ago with Monkey Island series..:) They were all hand illustrated and animated, but they look incredible back then and game-play, puzzles combined with humor were like - OMG! to me.. My first artist attribute was born back then I guess, hehe..:) As years passed by and technology went ahead, so was and Monkey Island - combined beautiful hand art with 3d rendered background and 3d characters.. To me it was logical way to go, but not so pretty as it was before. I mean, it was pretty combined, but feeling of loneliness was general..

And Grim Fandango? Does anyone remembers that awesome game published in 1998? Manny, Otis?! Those 4 years that you play in game was also OMG! I think it was first adventure that was combined 2D with 3D. Rendered background was 2D and you played with character that was real-time 3D and moved by keyboard! Oh what a great game was Grim Fandango..
That was golden age of adventures that through years slowly vanished even with stunning new graphics like one on Siberia.. Nothing else could compare to those classics of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango where you got whole package from game-play, beautiful graphics and puzzles with lot of humor combined action!

There were plenty new adventure games through years, but to me golden age is history. Those worth of typing are Vampire Story and Grey Matter and maybe I missed one, it doesn't matter.. They are all good with stunning graphics and all, but to me, like something is missing - feeling while playing along with loneliness - feeling.

So to get back from beginning of my writing, no matter how game - play is today with adventure games, I found them very inspirational for doing my own 3D Art, and how about you?
